First serious experiment with acrylic. Trying to overcome the hurdles that have kept me from using it as a medium in my work. Many struggles. The values hurt. Don't know how to lighten the background without making it chalky. Even used zinc white to try to keep it from being overpowering. Did manage to get them presentable. Difficulty with the paint. Perhaps I just need to find the right brushes, or maybe the right combination of what kinds of mediums. I used some glazing liquid with more success than water, but it makes the paint transparent. Great for glazing, I'm sure, but for colors that are supposed to be more opaque, it's difficult to control that opacity. How do I keep my brushes from getting so plasticy feeling, the paint from drying too fast to use? I definitely want to start painting on a regular basis. Working in a tiny sketchbook to remind myself that what I'm doing are studies- meant for learning, not as an end in itself.

I haven't drawn a simple wildlife portrait in some time. It was marvelous fun exploring the bounce light, warm and cool colors, and values in the textures! If I had more time I would push the details and colors even more. Several things bother me, it's what I get for not making sure my base sketch was solid before diving into painting.

This is a frame from an animation I did years ago on a game called "Kid Keys", a typing tutor for children. When players wanted to exit the game a confirmation dialog would appear along with this dragon who would smile or look sad depending on their choice. Awhile later I took one of the frames out and modified the image to create this picture and dumped it into my online directory so that anyone who went fishing in my personal storage area might eventually come across it and perhaps take pity. Heh. ;)

Been a long time since I did realistic art, I know this isn't perfect but it was my quick attempt to get that urge out of me. I tried using some more free lines rather than perfectly placed ones. Was really fun =) A red wolf in autumn. I might be coloring this some day. For now it will be available at AC I think this would make a fantastic tattoo =D

Keer reading Link's dog tag while she sleeps snuggled against him. Calatonan soldiers are given alphanumeric serial numbers that they are identified with in government systems and records. It makes it a lot easier to identify wounded and/or dead in battle, for example, Keer's tag reads MZK.49o1 on one side and one would simply have to enter this sequence of numbers into a hand held computer and they would be able to access his personal information, including, but not limited to previous occupations, living records, etc. On the other side is just a quick stat listing; full name, blood type, and DOB. Link's tag seems to be an exception to the norm, in that she only has a number, no letters, just a number; 5. Keer is curious about this, especially because Link apparently has no records in any database, neither does her ID number yield any results. According to the Calatonan government, she doesn't even exist.
