ArtSpots Rules
Yes, we have Terms of Use and a Submission Agreement. Those make lawyers happy. However, one line in the ToS is the following:
“We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.”
Now, we really don't have many reasons to do such. But, here are some guidelines for avoiding such a fate.
Artists, as I'm sure you are aware, you are held to a higher standard than most other gallery sites. Just to clarify some differences:
- This site is for original art of an illustrative nature.
- Sketches are quite welcome. We love sketches! You should too.
- 3D works of art such as sculpture, murals, outdoor art, etc. are allowed. Please do try to use the same thought of composition and lighting as you would for a 2D piece. No quick snapshots with a simple flash. This forum topic covers one way to properly light a sculpture.
- Costumes, like fursuits, while technically 3D art, inherently cannot demonstrate two of the four fundamentals in our guidelines. There might be an exception here and there, but it would have to be part of a scene as well thought out as a movie cinematographer might compose. In other words, entirely judged on lighting and composition—we will expect it to look like a still from a well-produced major motion picture.
- Fan art is allowed in small quantities. We encourage original art, but do realize that inspiration can come from existing works.
- We highly value your own interpretations of characters. This is easier to do with fictional characters from books versus a movie, but can still be done. If your art is based on visually recognizable characters, such as those from an animated movie, try it in a different style! Or, do a situation that fits the characters, but does not imitate a scene. We are all creative people, lets think of something the original creators didn't.
- We reserve the right to remove fan art if there is too much of it in a gallery, but will notify the artist beforehand to alert them to the situation.
- If the property's owner or company asks us to remove specific art of an existing character, we will do so.
- Photos are only allowed if they are of original art (see 3D works above).
- The art you upload must be created by you.
- The art must fall within our ratings, G thru PG-13.
- If you upload older works, please use the backdating creation date feature when uploading. This site aims to be a gallery site, and newer works are encouraged, from doodles to finished pieces.
- Blatant kink-only pieces are not allowed on ArtSpots due to the broad base of users of all ages. If you are going to sneak a piece in because of the tame nature, make it exceptional in creativity and story. Don't bore us.
- Respect copyright.
- Large watermarks that disrupt the viewing of an image (copyright notices, artist logos, etc.) are not allowed. Such things should be off to one side or corner. Images should not be at a sufficient size to duplicate anyway (see below).
- No monstrous images. Keep images at a reasonable (screen-viewable) size.
- Rate pictures appropriately.
These apply to everyone who visits the site:
- Description and comment language should fit the rating of the image. No swearing in G rated pictures, for example.
- Don't make defamatory or insulting comments.
- Above all, to mark us as kids from the 80's, be excellent to each other.
If these are obviously ignored repeated times or after warnings, we will take action. This list can change, so check back from time to time. If you're unsure of anything, please ask us.
