Basically it's thinking of a critter like say in my case, a rabbit, and drawing one completely without reference to see how much your memory is retaining about that particular critter. Things like distinctive features, bone structure if you feel brave, body shapes etc. Then of course comparing it to the real deal and seeing how accurate you are, what areas you're going waaaaay wonky and such. I tend to do mine very loose as I have this awful tendency to start going crazy with detail, hence I spend a couple of minutes max. It's good fun though, given how terrible I am at rabbit ears (Shown in the Notalope's ears frequently mistaken for orns) they ain't too bad. To my credit it's a very stylised but it does remotely look rabbit like just not as much as it should. Maybe a bit of hare in there? http://karu-dragon.artspots.com/image/19795/rabbit-test

A few years back while reading Qwan (Good series, based in ancient China) and this freaking awesome wolf turned up. At the time it was laying down, had no eyes and had a snake's tail. Due to the laying downness, I assumed he had no back legs which was ruined on the next page but it stuck with me as such a cool idea as a naga thing. I've got enough wolf things so why not a cat I thought? Started with the top right, then the left then bottom right as a sorda feel for the idea. The first of course was no ref and just noodling with the idea but I like her already. The Jaguarundi is a beautiful cat, very otter and rounded in face and a long tail. I love the red variation most mind. She's not yet been named.

It's my DA name which I've had for yeeeears now, I did a poll and people thought it was more memorable (And to me, less boring) albeit named about a male Pegsi but there you go. Logic! I have to wait till they come in here though which is some evenings to look out the bay window or they want to cool off. Photographing them is so much eaiser in this regard. I'll have to start working to get them looking more like the correspondanding cat though, not markings wise as they're both tabby but at least build and insane amount of fluff... Hell could attempt Spotty one of our fish if he felt co-operative and came out his log for a change. He hates being seen after all. Life drawing with animals is 90% chasing them down and getting them to stay put for more than 2 seconds, the other 10% is actually doing it :D Still tis good fun. Thankies,

Awesome! Animal life drawing must help a whole lot. At least you have cats though that sleep/stay still half the time, I have a hyper two-year old shepherd mix. o.O And Feather Dancer now are we? :)

Moggie sketches again just as quick as both wandered off soon after. This is in my gallery but thought I'd put it here too :) Fluff is looking lionish on the top left while Grey is in the other two sketches.

I "revived" somme sketches from my old college doodlepad (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/Zephyr_the_Hedgehog/Becausemybrainisoncrack.png) and on there is one of my beastie critters so just scrawled him really to see how I'd draw him now. The body shot looks pretty lousy but it's good for me if I have a brain dead moment of what I'm going for if nothing else. Doubt not properly anatomy checking helped either but hey! And if anybody wonders, yes thats the first ever Notalope top left on the link...

Always fun when you literally just start scrawling on a blank and turns into something. Anatomy wise it seems to have slightly anthroed or something. I suspect because there was a cat on the other chair in here last night thats why this scribble turned into one without me thinking.

Testing out my new monitor, both on the, holy crap I can SEE front and the larger size. Had a poll up on DA on who peeps would like me to scribble and went from there. The Toucan however is a plushie on my monitor (Green glitter bracelet included), there was a little space in the corner so thought I may as well use it. Sabre's wonky eye isnt intetnional, it's just I have no intention of fixing it since it's only a rushed scribble :)

Never actually drawn one of my paak beasties, I really want to toss them into one of my projects now.. This was just a getting the feel for the head design in a mish mash scribble. It was a glance look at a water buffalo skull but turned out more goat like for some reason Oo Ah well, still nifty.

Apology art for Thalron who has been so paitent with me for me doing some art with him which has been delayed for numberous reasons. I looked it up, Dragon from D&D *shrug*. It didn't take long this, used a random line technique I did on an elephant in my doodle pad and a colouring style similar to the hash colouring on the Shaukulé pic. Old monitor so now it looks a bit cringey.

Just checked, wow poor old One Wing dates back to October 2006, I thought it was a bit more recent than that Oo It did get me thinking yesterday. What does his face look like? I've only ever drawn that guy in that one instance and it purely came on it's own accord so I admit being a bit clueless but now I wonder. The Lady pic (Which I still depise, it's the colouring style that irks me so bad) was actually a secret santa done back very early January last year, I was on a slight funky style kick, which only ever seemed to affect limbs for whatever reason, at the time which only lasted about two weeks but it got it out of my system :) It's true about the face, I think it's the best humanoid face I have ever done, certainly never matched it. Figures though, one I don't like, particularly the what the hell happened to the anatomyness, happens to big a big hit with many. Fraid I'm all out of older ones though so thank you :) Now I've finally found my USB some more pages from the doodle pad and possibly the slight mole kick I was having should appear shortly.

I like the figure for the same reason as Sabre Kitty, too. I don't like the wing cause I am a wing snob. The lady is really cool, too. Her face has an interesting stlye and her arm makes her look a bit creepy to me because it's too short and kinda clawed. I don't know what you were going for and I hope I do not offend, but I enjoy the effect very much.
