Thank you everyone who has responded to this thread and/or sent me e-mail. I really appreciate the great responses I've received so far.

I'll be looking at those who are interested and their work throughout the week (between the joys of being a student and all that).

I actually got the idea of a critter cake topper from some edible decorations a friend's mother did on a birthday cake she made me two years ago. I'm a fan of kiwis (they're just too funny-looking not to be adorable, you know?) and she made little brown with dark brown speckled kiwi birds out of marzipan and put them on my cake. They were great, with toothpicks for legs and a beak.

At any rate, thank you again everyone!

Oh I didn't know you did sculptures, Richard. What a lovely sample! I've never worked with epoxy putty before. We'll have to talk about it sometime.

Oh those are some talented sculptors. I might be able to help you out too if you find you're still in a pickle after contacting them. Just let me know.

Edit: That'd be really cool if it was edible too...like made out of marzipan or sugar or something. Like this: http://www.bakersart.com/products.html
I might have to experiment just for kicks.

Good luck! ;)

Well, let’s see. I wasn’t quite sure what to even title this thread, but I’ll push past that and get right to the point. I’m getting married this summer and I’m having a heck of a time finding any cake toppers I want. Now, I like to think I’m not some fussy bride who is concerned about the exact color of the tablecloths and getting monogrammed napkins, but I picture a cake topper being a unique piece of art. I mean, wedding cakes are becoming quite artistic, and as my husband-to-be and I are both the artsy type, we’ll doubtlessly have a lovely wedding cake that is a piece of art all on its own. And, somehow, I just can’t bring myself to place plastic figurines atop such a work of art.

Hence, my search began and I’ve looked at monograms, specialized cake toppers, flowers… flowers suited me fine, I will tell you, but the husband-to-be apparently has something against plants on food. No, I don’t understand it either, but we all have our oddities.

Anyway, after all that I had this lovely idea one day that I might be able to commission someone to sculpt me the cake topper of my wildest dreams. And it so happens that said cake topper would be me and the husband-to-be portrayed as our foxy anthro selves. Oh the geekage, I know. However, the beginning of our romance started with me drawing pictures of a charming little orange fox with green goggles and a scarf who was always trying to fly. Represented my man and all, you see, and eventually I turned myself into a little foxy and there you have it. So, the cake topper would be a lovely little thing with a load of sentimental value to us.

And that’s the story. If you are interested in creating this cake topper for me please contact me and we’ll talk details.

Quick rundown of info:

-My e-mail is amberskye08@googlemail.com
-pictures of the fox with green goggles and the my fox-ized self can be found in my gallery
-wedding is set for the end of June, so will need the cake topper before then and all that
-I am ready and willing to pay real money. This is a commission, not a trade or a request. (Well, a request of sorts, but you know)

To close, if anyone knows of an artist who might be able to help me with this but may not be a part of this community, I would be delighted if you could point me their way so I can hunt them down and present the whole “cake topper of my dreams” spiel again. Much thanks!
