I got the okay from the spottycat in charge to go ahead with this, so I think I shall!
We are looking to have topical banners done for each site for each month. The best part of it is that you get $50 USD if your art gets chosen!
The way this will work for January, to see how it all works in practice and iron out any kinks, is this:
Draw up a rough character sketch -- I cannot emphasize this enough -- rough sketch and post it here. Try not to spend more than, say, a half hour on it at most. Rough rough roughs! We will all choose the one we think works well. And then the artist will go ahead and finish up the piece and then collect the prize!
So, what to draw? It must involve one or more of the cheetah staff. You can find a whole list here on the about page. Other than that, it's free reign! Try to focus just on the character(s), as they will most likely be placed in front of the existing logos (although depending on the drawing, we may do otherwise!)
Now, for the fine (but normal sized anyway) print. This is open only to JaxPad artists. If you are on ArtSpots, sorry! There's another game for you. You must've been on the site for at least three months and have artwork in your gallery. If you are brand new here, you can still participate and vote, just wait until our contest in March to enter! Artists can only win once every two years. This is so we can allow more people to get their art up.
Regarding the art: We here at ArtSpots realize that you have control over your art. However, us, the cheetahs (and mouse), are part of ArtSpots. This means that by entering the contest you grant us exclusive right to your artwork for use on our site. In short, it can be posted in your gallery here, just not elsewhere without our permission. On the flip side, it also means we cannot use your artwork for anything else without proper compensation. If we want to use it on buttons, a shirt, or in a calendar, you will be paid again, a rate proportionate to the use and agreed upon. The original (if done in real media) can of course be sold in whichever art show you wish, although we want first-buying options. All this will be covered in more detail in the contract, but that's the short of it!
So, lets get a good handful of roughs up here and get started!
