Changes at Home

Ah, bonjour people! I am sure by now, and after Babbage's post, you have noticed some, uh, noticable changes about the site! Well, in two places at least.

First, we have a legitimate "home page" now. Rather than just being a random collection of images—they are still there but at least labeled as such!—it also includes some current happenings of the site. This includes the oft-requested feature of seeing which new artists have joined!

Second, similar to the home page, is the "My Home" page, er, your home page, which is now populated by movable, removable, addable boxes. Add only what you want, remove what you don't, and place them wherever you want. While tested thouroughly once before going online, this is going to give them a more vigorous test.

We still have some nicities to add to them, but as always, are open to suggestions too. According to Babbage, new widgets that use existing parts of the site are relatively easy to add. Not to mention we are still working on more "expanded" pages that relate to them. (Such as what you get when you click more with "Recent Comments.")

The important part is, they are done. And hopefully, the changes that have been happening recently are slowing down. The site is approaching what we consider a 1.0 version, and what you see now is going to be the general overall look of it, sans details. And my, are there details we are trying to figure out.

As an addendum: We are going to be working on more comprehensive "documentation" or feature descriptions, perhaps a feature of the day or week, so that people can get an idea of some of the more advanced but oft overlooked aspects of the site. (Fetch Folders come to mind. Whenever someone finally sees them, they are like, "Oh, that's so cool! When did you add them?!" Around January.

Plus there are some more powerful things this site has that mainly geeks would love. Thank Babbage for those. He will be coming up with documentation for things like that.

So yup, we will be highlighting, with visuals, how to delve deeper into the site. That is one drawback to keeping the surface simple, a lot of the more complex stuff gets overlooked.

One thing I miss is being able to show my top 25 images in stats, or to see all of them. Is that possible?

We seemed to have touched a sensitive spot with the artists, so yes, it will be taken care of as soon as we can manage, and be even more comprehensive than before. Widgets are at-a-glance things which will expand out into larger pages. More info here:
