I will be asking in several forums but wondered about opinions from people who draw in a similar fashion. Do you or have you used a cintiq, and do you think it is worth the $1000 in terms of both usage and longevity?
If you google more about the product you will see people commenting about the now deleted european forums and about the tablet's general issues. My estimation is that the first few months of usage are near flawless but that with time (for some a few months) increasing jittering and responsiveness issues will inevitably occur.
I definitely want to know anyone who has owned the tablet for more than 4 months or anyone who has seen these problems and experienced wacom tech support.
thanks in advance!

Well, I have a penabled tablet PC that I doodle with, and the technology is pretty good 4 years after purchase, and with modestly heavy usage. The screen only once in a while will act wonky on me, occasionally reading maximum pressure, or not registering a stroke. I feel like Wacom has high quality. I have an intuos 3 that I regret not using more (tablet is nicer!) and it has been a solid product. But the price, being astronomical as it is, for a cintiq of any kind would have me nervous like you are.
I dont know if the tablet PC's technology is comparable, since it is a Toshiba, and they therefore didnt make the screen, just the technology behind it.
Hopefully someone here has had one for an extended time and can give you better, more helpful responses. But the price of them limits their userbase by a lot.

Thanks for your insight Taristin. It's encouraging your tablet is still sturdy. Hopefully that is similar to wacom's.
An update, I have been snooping about some more today and it seems the users who are content appear to have what appears to be repaired models. I actually wrote to wacom regarding this issue and hope to hear from them after thanksgiving weekend.

Only just noticed this thread, thought I'd chip in.
I have a 12wx, and have had it since about March last year. In that time Wacom have released a string of driver updates for it that have improved the tracking and fixed most of the jittering issues I had (it used to be the closer the pen was to the edge of the digitiser, the more jittery it would become). There are still some issues, but nothing that stops me from using it. If you have any more questions, then I'll keep an eye on this thread and try to answer them
Other than that, it's a wonderful, solid piece of kit that I love. If you have the money and a suitable desire to draw, then I consider it to be a valid investment.

Thank you Twll!
That was very helpful and knowing they addressed the issue with the jittering is definitely encouraging. I do have a goal now.
My intuos is currently in real bad shape as I rolled over the cable with an old chair and the wire became exposed. It's temporarily patched up but I am working on feral commissions to help purchase an upgrade. Therefore I'm glad you love it. I am always looking for ways to make art even more enjoyable than it is and a new toy like the cintiq would be awesome if it helps. :3

On your old tablet you can have the cable replaced. I use to do a lot in electronics and got out of it do to not being able to keep up. But changing out a USB cable is a rather easy thing.

i agree! i'm a strong advocate of not throwing out perfectly good electronics because of broken cables. they're fairly easy, fairly inexpensive fixes (if you have the tools/know something about electronics/know somebody who does). my fella's hobby is electronics and broken cables are the easiest tasks he has (and he does it a lot, thanks to our dog :P)
hunting down a friend who knows how to do that would be a lot cheaper than shelling out for a whole new tablet!
... not to discourage you from getting a cintiq (i know i'd kill for one). just advocating an easy repair over tossing a perfectly good piece of electronics into the trash!

I know this might horrify an EE major but I just ducktaped my intuos 2 together. :)
And yea tell me about it. When it comes to frugality I am embarrassingly good at it.

At least you didn't use super glue! A friend of mine does laptop repair and he's has them come in that had been glued back together with the stuff...

Hey, I know two people with intuos2's held together with masking tape and duck tape. As long as it keeps it working, nobody can complain.
Incedentally, the intuos4 recently came out. Perhaps a tablet falling apart is a sign from God :)
