Back to School for Art?

I have been recently been giving a lot of thought to going back to school for an art education. I began to do some research today and already my first plan was shot down. It seems like the state colleges near my home(I live in southern California) don't admit people trying to get a second bachelors unless the second bachelors is in nursing or engineering. At all.

So my question for the community is, has anyone had any experience trying to go back to school to study art? Are there other opportunities out there other than JCs and 4 year universities that are affordable and high quality?

I am currently enrolled in a night class at the JC near my house, but I would really like to take a couple years and focus entirely on art. I badly want to improve my skills and see how far I can take them.

that's odd. I am going to aim for an animation/illustration in SJSU. you could give that a shot. I'm right now at PCC gathering up some art courses.

I guess I am of no help because I live in BC! So unless you want to live in Vancouver ... :)

I'm also planning to go back to school for art next year though. I have my 1-year Fine Arts Certificate from some University College here, but now I want to get into a 3-year Illustration & Design program at a different University, because it sounds so great.

That's weird that they won't let you take another Bachelor's. Is that only in your state? I never heard of anything like that.

Have you considered any Art Institutes or anything like that? The problem with them is that they're sooo expensive :[ But they still might be an opportunity worth looking into, depending on what you want to focus on. Are you wanting to do traditional studio art or something more designy?

The only cal state schools I have really researched so far are cal state fullerton and cal state long beach. UCI, which is also close, allows some second bachelors, but it didn't look like they have an illustration/animation program, only studio art. But if SJSU lets in second bachelors, maybe I will keep doing some research and see if I can't find something.

For a smaller school, you might want to look into Laguna College of Art and Design. They're on the cheaper side for an art school ($19K this year, compared to the average $30-35k at other schools), and VERY good. They offer an illustration/animation hybrid bachelors degree, too.

I'm actually going to this school right now, so if you have any questions, I'd be more than willing to talk with you :)
