Okay, I know about flagging, but some people here swear terribly on G rated images in their description. I figure some people only view G images 'cause of all the things they aren't yet old enough to view. For this reason I was wondering what others thought about this. Because I think your description is also important to the picture, so shouldn't it abide by your rating?
Plus I noticed this in the rulebook:
Description and comment language should be appropriate for the rating of the image (e.g. no swearing in G rated pictures).
I dunno why I was in there, but I was, maybe it was in God's will.

I agree with this!
But remember, some cursing is considered 'G' territory ;} For example, I own some G-rated movies that have mild swearing in them, cartoons included. I kind of think what the artist says in their description is up to them, but the 'stronger' curse words should not be used if you plan on having the picture rated G.
Just my 2 cents.

Very true! I'm not terribly fond of 'crude language', I just don't like it when, as you said, strong curse words are used. Scotland Sky found the image I'm mostly referring to first, it had one of the worst words I could image on it, and since they rated it G I was really upset. However, they appear to have rerated it. Thanks for the support!

I recall having to ask an artist to remove the F-word from a G-rated/PG-rated pic not once, but twice. I don't think it should have been used on such pictures at all. I cuss like a sailor at times, but not when I know there are sensitive folks/kids around.

As an official voice I would like to request that if you feel an image, or in this case, description, violates the rules, please feel free to private message us with a reason for flagging rather than taking matters into your own hands and harassing the user.
There are polite ways to request someone to change the rating on their image, but this is best left to the administrators so as to prevent the mobbing I've been seeing going on around the galleries.

Ooookay. I'm not one for foul language either but I don't think the word "damn" is really that foul of a word that couldn't be included in a PG rating.
I've noticed something else, two images that stick out in my mind that I saw on the uploads that had people complaining about language were drawn by people from Germany. I know for a fact they have different standards of language usage and ratings over there than they do in the states. Something to consider as well. Not everyone goes by America's rulebook, so some grace should be administered when commenting rather than the ALL CAPS and the OMG's I've seen. This just seems like a big case of "didn't know it was that bad, sorry."
But mobbing is ugly ugly business that really doesn't help a friendly site.

personally i think getting upset over cussin' on the internets is more trouble than it's worth, but that's just me. i just think there are a lot worse things that can go on an image than a handful of bad words. i can't say for sure but i would guess isn't anyone under the age of 12 or 13 here and i'm sure they've heard it all by now unless they have been hardcore sheltered from society.

Ah on that note - what is the AS-policy on pictures depicting self-harm? Personally, I am not keen on pictures of fuzzy animals "cutting" or committing suicide, yet I have seen a couple, flagged them, only to see them on the frontpage again with the flag removed.

Sudan -
A couple of things: Mild violence is allowed under the PG 13 rating, but no excessive gore of course. Any images falling between these extremities are taken on a case by case basis.
When you flag an image it does not remove it from the gallery, rather it just alerts us to take a look at it. If you flag an image for review one or more of the moderators must then make a decision to let the piece stay or be deleted. This can also take awhile as sometimes an image falls within a gray area that we didn't anticipate when we first built the site and we have to discuss.
If you feel that a specific image was left up in error you are more than welcome to PM one of us and explain your stance and we will take it into consideration.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. I would much prefer that viewers not get bent out of shape over words and, to be honest, I would rather than the words in the description not have any basis on what the rating of the picture should be.
If the illustration is obviously meant to be G-rated and the artist uses "foul language" in their description, I really don't like the idea of the artist needing to change their image rating just because of that. The rating system is for the illustration, not for the description.

I am aware that flagging doesn't remove an image from public view. I've flagged a specific image quite a few times in the past year, so it really doesn't make any difference whether I PM you with my stance. :) You have made it clear that such images are acceptable by your action. I just won't waste that 30seconds in future.

Just a note about flagging I'd like to bring up: It works best as a community effort. Some people email helpdesk with suspect images, and while that is one avenue, we are currently trying to deal with a backlog there. Flagging is the quickest, easiest method to report an image for our moderators to view it. If it gets flagged a certain amount in a certain time period, it automatically gets removed from view.
I think that if it is being flagged for language, we should have that as an option in the pulldown, otherwise I think moderators are just looking at the image and judging the rating based on that. That's what I've done on the few times I've gone into view flags, so I admit I'm guilty of this too. A marker for "Description" would probably be best, as seeing that I'd know to go look at that specifically.

How long does it take for flagged images to be reviewed? Currently, there doesn't seem to be any action taken at all.
PS I do realise that it is a holiday weekend in the US and most people won't be glued to the PC, but these images were flagged almost a week ago if not more. :)

I've been prowling the Flags myself as well and there are some which puzzle me, i wish, quite honestly that along with flagging and categories that there would be a place to tell a reviewer what exactly is WRONG with a certain peice besides just the dropdown menu, there are tons in the flagged category with "violates rules" and I can't for the life of me see where.
