I've had this idea for a while, and I think it was part of the intent for the paintchat when it was integrated into the site.
I was wondering if folks would like to join in on various kinds of lessons during the evenings? I have a few in mind I could teach, with all my usual disclaimers that I don't now everything and I just like to help, such as drawing wolves or wings or whatever people want to know.
But I'd also like to know who would like to volunteer to teach some sessions and who you guys are interested in hearing from, and we could ask the artist to come spend an hour or so in the chat.
I myself am available during the evenings California time and even during the hours when folks are active on the other side of the world.
If you are interested in teaching, post here and discuss it!
If anyone is interested in a wolf drawing lesson, for what it is worth, I was thinking this Wednesday night?
Cheers!

I think that's a great idea, if the artists don't mind doing some tutoring. It'd also be a nice way to meet others on here who you might not otherwise know. I'd definitely try to make time to come watch.

I think this is a great idea! I don't know if I can actually be present, but I hope it becomes a regular offering.
Would it be possible to save the Sketcher sessions for later access? Or just take a series of screenshots or something? I've never used Sketcher before so I don't know if that's even doable. But it sure would be nice for those who can't be present at the time to be able to look back and benefit from the teachers' experience.

I think this a great idea. It would probably be a bit late for me being the UK but I'm sure there are plenty of people who are night owls.

That'd be pretty cool. I'd watch, assuming I'm around when they're going on.

If someone knows how to record the screen, that might work? I am too nervous about the initial run to have it recorded, I'd like to get a few sessions under my belt before making it available on youtube or something.
CaptainQ has offered a human anatomy class! I don't know much else, we will have to be patient. :3

I'd be willing to help out, I just don't know what people would want me to teach.

If anyone has Fraps, you might be able to record it that way. Dunno if anyone has that program though.

I have it (registered even), but FRAPS is only for capturing DirectX and OpenGL windows (e.g. video games).
I do however own Camtasia, which rocks filthy. You can get CamStudio which rocks open source filthy. The codec isn't as fast as Camtasia's (although I do admit that I haven't tried it out for a while), but it's an perfectly good option and I've used it extensively in the past and it works great.
Depending on the nature of the videos, you could just screencast yourself drawing in your favorite drawing program with a voice over and post it on Vimeo. It would be nice to have a chat where people can ask questions (Ventrilo, Team Speak, etc.) in real time, and have other people pitch in with good information and draw when necessary(which I think makes using Paint Chat totally worth it I think, even though it is kind of clumsy to paint with).
The other tricky thing with screencasting is if the same person recording also wants to talk using voice chat. That's not exactly possible because with most people's sound cards you can only record on one channel at a time, and the screencasting software will need to capture the Stereo Mix.
There's some tricks I could do on my end, but if I started talking on Ventrilo you could get an echo from anyone else talking at the same time.
But yeah, fun stuff to think about. :)

How to make sketches that have more personaility than people do on final works? :)
Now I've got sketcher going again I could do soemthing on on the starting of proper meshing avoiding the mroe tacked on effect or creation of critters... I find the critter bit easy but some people really struggle. Sides could be a good laugh if nothing else setting a few challenges.

That sounds pretty neat! Ha, I'm drawing a mish mash critter myself right now as thanks for the person who showed me the pressure plugin for macs.

Since we're talking about sketcher here, is there any way I could get my pen pressure working in sketcher? I have an Intuos Graphics 3 tablet and a Mac and I would LOVE it if I could get my pen pressure working in sketcher! It's one of the main reasons why I don't hang around in sketcher too much and work in other programs more often...

The link to the plugin is here:
http://marcello.cellosoft.com/projects/jtablet/jtablet-macosx-2007.08.15.zip
To get it to work, go to your Library ad if you don't have a Java folder, make one. Inside the Java folder, make an Extensions folder. Drop jtablet.jar and libjtablet.jnilib into the Extensions folder. Here is a screenshot of the path: http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb169/Salmadys/Picture1.png
It crashes Firefox for me, but works great in Safari, if a bit quirky. If I exit sketcher I have to restart Safari to get the pressure back if I want to go back into Sketcher. No problem for me, I only downloaded Safari for this purpose anyway. :3

Metsys, thanks for CamStudio. It does rock filthy. I've been looking for a desktop recorder so I could give my mom computer help in videos, rather than text. (Now I just need to make a video on how to watch videos on a computer.)
Ventrillo is a good option, assuming we can find a server. I have several servers, but I'm not buddy buddy up with any of the owners. A close friend does have one that is open for use, but it has a cap of either 8 or 12. If nothing else, Skype conference calls would also work, but you lose out on the push-to-talk key, and it's not as sexy.
For pen pressure, I just got the exe from here (http://sketchstudio.cellosoft.com/) and ran it. I tested it last night, and it works fine in Opera. Not sure if this is completely different, or just a different way to do it.
