Daily Upload Limit?

I know this has been talked about before but I'm just going to reiterate that there needs to be some sort of daily upload limit. I don't much like going to a communal art site and basically seeing a 2 page long showcase of just one artist.

I think 5 is a fair number for a 24 hour period. More than fair I think. Especially because it gives people time to think about "is this really my best work? Or am I just putting it here to get it online?"

Agreed. There's been one or two cases in the last week where the recent uploads has been almost all one person, which isn't quite fair to those who get pushed off the first page in one fell swoop.

Anywhere between 5 and 10 max uploads in a 24 hr period is good by me. (Any less than 5 seems too restrictive and any more than 10 is beginning to flood the front page).

There are some cases I've noticed it isn't the recent artwork but application of certain artists as well. I'm not sure if their applications get uploaded all at once or if they themselves uploaded at once, but it would be great to see the art spaced out. Thanks for listening to all our suggestions.

If you were looking yesterday, I'm probably the artist you saw. Sorry about that :( I'm used to faster-moving art sites, so I didn't realize that I was going to produce such a horrid flood. Until a coding fix can be created, some sort of welcome message might help - just informing newbies about the volume levels could (or would have in my case) inspire courteous uploading.

I can see where this would be a problem. When I got to look at the recent art uploaded, I would like to see some variety. However, I tend to upload several images at once, but back date them because I hate scanning and uploading everyday. I rather due it in bulk. By limiting the uploads per day, this would take away my option of back dating in bulk. :(

And I don't believe the things I back date show in "that" days recent...I could be wrong.

I should say the max should be closer to 10... maybe like 8 per day? Just a suggestion.

While I do support an upload limit, I think it should be noted that there's already a feature in place that essentially sorts the recents, so that you see a maximum of 5 recent pieces by each artist, in chronological order. http://www.artspots.com/image/browse?sort_by=Artists - here's a direct link, but you can also do this by clicking "Artists" (instead of "Thumbnails") on the Recents page.

I actually really like browsing this way, not only because it automatically limits to 5 pieces per artist, but because it also shows you what else an artist has done recently, perhaps beyond what you may have caught on the recents in thumbnail format. :)

ha, i love it when other people read my mind.

i never would have guessed that would be a way to browse, or found that link on the recents page, thanks oce :) i'm going to have to agree with other though about an upload limit. not so much for the sake of the recents page, and more in agreement to the thought a limit making artists really think about what they're uploading. one of my biggest fears with artspots (especially after the merge) was people looking upon this site as a dumping ground for their art, good or bad. just using it as free space they can link to, while being part of a gallery system. i don't necessarily think that's what's been happening, but it is in the forefront of my mind when i don't see quality standards being enforced.

my second minor concern, relatively related, is mostly geared to the design of the browsing the recents page. i assume as artspots evolves, more features will be added, more functionality, filters, preferences, etc. where in that will make a viewer's browsing more enjoyable, o worry about just how complex and frustrating all these features will become, especially with the current design/layout, where every little adjustment has its own link on the page and not really relating to anything in general (woo, run on sentence that probably doesn't make sense). it's not a huge deal, but it's something i'm thinking about. in short, functionality is great, but i hope they won't make something as simple as viewing recents so complicated it becomes a hassle.

In quick (hopefully!) response to ArtSpots being a 'dumping ground' for every little sketch or doodle!

We DO want you to upload every little sketch or doodle! We have a special forum called 'sketchbooks' which is a PERFECT place to put all the rest! Want to upload 10 works in progress for an illustration? Go right ahead!

I may be preaching to the choir, here, but I'm trying to get the word out that there is a place here to upload 'every little sketch and doodle!'

The more people know about and use the 'sketchbooks' forum, the less chance of ArtSpots' recents page being flooded like that. =)

When I go out into the countryside and see the sun and the green and everything flowering, I say to myself "Yes indeed, all that belongs to me!".

Excuse my scribbling, it is late, and I have a poor candle.

i guess it's more to issue of quality, sketch or not (which i think has been debated ad nauseum in a previous post, and will not dredge up too much in this). "dumping ground" in my sense refers to the practice of posting whatever you got despite the lack intent or effort. as in the previous discussions, some were hoping that artspots would uphold a level of quality in their galleries. too many other galleries have become "dumping grounds" and the quality of art suffers for it, without any intent to improve. i personally believe in the difference between "gallery for my works great and small, for enjoyment and critique, to further my efforts in art" and "hey, free web space! *dump*"

but, it is what it is, and that is merely my opinion on the matter.
