<message>Okay, so I sketched this as an exercise in drawing dynamic poses. I worked on it for quite a while, but something still looks...off...about it. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Another problem is, the character in the picture is supposed to be about 15 years old, but I always end up making teenagers look older than they actually are.

Any suggestions? Critique/redlines would be much appreciated.</message>

<message>hmm...well I think that you did a pretty good job to be honest. The only thing I see wrong would be that you leaned the head a bit too far to the left. (his left) Apart from that looks great to me. ^^</message>

<message>I think you got the right look to the body.
As far as age of the face goes:
The rule-of-thumb to make it look younger
is larger cranium & smaller - um...
I guess I should say 'muzzle' here.

If nothing else, the eyes need to appear 'lower' on the head.
Just how far to 'baby'-fy it is tricky.

I concur on the "head too far to (his left)".
Think again about just where the base of his skull is relative to the path of the spine/neck.

BTW: This is my very first post to artspots. Bring your own salt-lick. ;)

<message>Thanks, guys - I took your advice and moved the head over and tried to make his face a little more kid-like. I feel like I should move his head down a little bit, because he's supposed to be ducking a little bit, but when I moved it it looked kinda weird.

Does it look any better?</message>

<message>Yes, I think it looks better.
Moving the head down was on my mind too.
Making that adjustment didn't work for me either.
(shrug)

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but, something about your sketch
tells me you are working from a photo of that exact pose.
I think I could better tell what the anthro' head should be doing
if I saw a sketch with the position of the original head.
-or the photo, but I wouldn't expect that posted here. </message>

<message>I used photos as references for different parts of the body that I was having trouble drawing - one for the legs (his right leg, specifically) and one for the arm holding the basketball, but I don't have a photo of a person in this exact pose, so I don't really have a ref. for how the head should attach to the body.

I tried completely re-drawing the head, because I still couldn't get it to connect to the body correctly, plus I was getting a creepy baby-head feel from it. Hopefully I didn't screw it up so that he looks too old again.

Here's the re-done sketch, I think it looks a little better:</message>

<message>Truthfully I like all of your pose - even the head - both now and before (though it seems his nose is connected to his eye at this point - but I'm sure you'll fix that once you've got the sketch down). There are only two things that jump out at me and they are the size of the basketball - it seems a bit small. Like in <a href="http://www.sports-information.org/basketball-game-400.jpg">this photo</a> you see his hand is sprawled across the ball as wide as it will go, and since he is a kid - you can't use pro basketball references since those guys are huge.

The second thing is the calf on his right leg (viewer's left) seems to have disappeared in your scribbles. It might come out again later, but I thought I'd make a note about it.</message>
