Welcome to Trading Post #33 everyone!
It seems Bazjra has a whole slew of characters up her sleeve to pluck from - and what an intriguing choice she has made:

Took me awhile to figure out who to use for this, but I finally settled on Fletcher,a character from a comic that I’d like to do called Avalon Heights . The only set things are that it is set during World War 1 in Egypt . Most of the references I have on uniforms are sketchy and probably counter each other as far as dates, RFC/RAF, &c., go. -_-'
Stationed at the Avalon Aerodrome somewhere in Egypt , Lieutenant Samuel E. Fletcher serves in 69 Squadron, B Flight. His uniform (usually) consists of a khaki RFC uniform: “maternity” tunic, breeches, boots, and cap, or the blue RAF uniform: pocketed tunic, same breeches, and boots. He wears a leather cap, green-glass goggles, and flight jacket when in the air. He flies an SE5a biplane that he named “Lady Gossamer”. The nose is painted with the blue and gold diamond pattern of B Flight, the rest is a standard olive-green body with light grey on the undersides of the wings. British roundels on the top and lower wings.
Fletcher is your standard bush hyrax: short, blunt nose, large dark eyes, gray-brown fur, sticky pawpads, and tusks. His whiskers are generally curled up, moustache-like. 27 years old, he stands roughly at 5’8”, and a little on the heavy side.
Fletcher likes to have a good laugh and is easily one of the more optimistic pilots of B Flight. He is good natured with friends, and an excellent pilot, having attained “ace” status with seven confirmed kills. Niceties aside, though, he is a stickler for the rules, stubborn, and has a great amount of endurance. One of those “takes a licking and keeps on ticking” type of folk. Fletcher writes regularly to his fiancé, Nadine Underbridge , a Red Cross nurse stationed at the French front. He also smokes and enjoys a good scotch whisky every once in a while. Before the war, Fletcher was a teacher at a South African university.

The other pilots and crew of B Flight:
Captain Anthony P. Clipper: Red Squirrel; 25 years; flies “Sojourn”, a SPAD XII; he’s pessimistic, rough, and takes chess far too seriously, but he is good friends with Fletcher. At some point in the story, his plane is shot down and he’s captured by the Turks, losing his left eye in the process.

2nd Lieut. Percival Pickett: Cat (solid gray fur); 23 years; Nieuport 17. Pickett is perhaps the most levelheaded and controlled, but he’s ruthless in a dogfight. He wears spectacles and likes to play the violin.
Warrant Officer Jerry Folsom: Ringtail Cat; 21 years; Nieuport 17 and a BE5 (two-seater) nicknamed the “Iron Bustard”. The only American in the group, Folsom managed to worm his way into the RFC ranks, hoping to fly in France ; he’s the joker of the group and Maxie’s mentor http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/Kattadin/APaA/ahjerry.jpg
Warrant Officer Maximus “Maxie” Kettlebung: Welsh Springer Spaniel; 19 years; Folsom’s observer on the “Bustard”. Maxie tends to take the brunt of the jokes, due to being the youngest man of the flight group and being only an observer.

Air Mechanic Kela Moss: River Otter; 27 years. The only one that will play chess with Clipper, he is also the only one that beats him at the game (regularly).

The only other characters of some importance are Colonel Stark, the boar squadron leader, and Ilse Christaan, an older kit fox nurse. Stark is a kiwi, a non-flying officer, that no one particularly likes.

If you need more reference pics for uniforms, dress/clothing for Nadine, planes, or anything else, I’ll put ‘em up.

Sacré bleu! What a rich and splendorous world Bazjra has painted for us already! Have at it, mes amis!

Really cool character. Pretty busy week coming up but hopefully I'll be able to get a pic in somewhere.

Before the war, Fletcher was a teacher at a South African university.

Ooooh, which one? :)

Adopt one today!

Um...The University....

Actually, I don't know. I'd not given it much thought as it's not an important/plot-driving bit of Fletcher's past.

What a pity! What exactly did he teach then?

Adopt one today!

Here you go, Bazjra!

Don't include me in the poll, please, Toulouse!

Aw man, I want to draw Fletcher so much. Wonderful characters.

Sudan Red: He taught mathematics (or history -- again, I've not set it down in stone yet)

Vizon: Oh my gosh! That's so good! He looks perfect -- completely hyrax-y and absolutely stunning. Thank you soooo much!

Wadifah: Thanks :)

Anybody else going to be submitting to this one yet? Been really busy myself so wasn't able to get in on it, but now feel guilty that no one else has done anything. ^.^ Aside from Vizon of course.

Heh, I think we all got intimidated by the historical accuracy and detail :).

I'll try and think of something simple to do (provided on how much time we have left). Too many of the other images I was thinking of doing were pretty elaborate because of all the information available.

My friends, we are nearing three weeks for this trading post. Remember - this is a game - it is for fun! A contest between friendly creative artists. All characters are open to your interpretation. After all, you are doing this as a free gift and favor, not a commission. Toss in a sketch - a finger paint out of pudding - a Lego biplane with a hyrax-shaped piece of gum flying it - it's not that serious! Break away from your school and your work and do something for kicks and giggles. This TP is for your enjoyment, after all.

Yeah, that's why I had to remind myself about that. I had a conditioned reaction and I think some of us had that too.

I do like the idea of pudding. For eating anyway. I'll go make some.

eh, sry about that. With all the computer troubles I've been having recently I haven't been able to post much. I'll get something in. ^^

Supposed to be doing something else but...

Here ya go. Was actually pretty fun to draw up. ^^ Finally got some time in between all my work for the finals to finish it. :D Hope you like it.

Ah, sorry for not replying sooner, I've been out of state (still am!) for the past week.

Anyways, yes, sorry about the historical accuracy, didn't mean to scare everyone. :P But I am *totally* in favor of a Lego biplane with a gummy hyrax in it. I'd have posted a few more sketcher-doodle references (Fletcher does where the smaller/angley cap rather than the visor-type, I just realized), but again, way out of town.

Boxcutter: For supposed to be doing something else, that's incredible. I've always liked the crispness of your drawings.

WolfReign: I love it, and I'm very glad you had fun. Good luck with your finals.

Heh, well that was just me and how I typically work on projects: the more detailed the information the more detailed the image. Out of habit I try to have some kind of story being depicted in the images I do, and with all those character profiles in my brain it did it's usual thing and went nuts figuring out images with five characters interacting and at least two airplanes :). It's good that you are detailed in your characters and milieu, I just have habits that I need to break for this kind of stuff.

Oh, and Toulouse, when is the poll for this going to start? I want to make sure I don't miss my entry.

The poll will go up midnight Sunday night or early Monday morning. So you have the whole weekend to finish your entries!

Here's my entry. It's been a while since I've painted something else besides just characters, so this it was a lot of fun to do some mechanical/environmental stuff again.
