I'm hoping myself to do it from a distance some day, as I'm not so content with KC. I'm more a mountains and wilderness gal myself and this place is full of coffee factories and trains and scary dark allies. On the plus side, it's very artsy and the flooded out bottoms warehouses have been transformed into crazy artsy studios and clubs (Dr. Sketchy's is down there). City of fountains, yadda yadda... Lots of local bands and several stadiums, and lots of studios and galleries around town to gape at First Fridays.
Overall lots of bars, bums, and in general a patchwork quilt of ghettos and mansions. So Thorn, where you're at is definitely more beautiful.
This job is more along the lines of graphic design, as I find myself drawing scenes, tropical plants, trucks, and textures as well as animals. It's great for a stable, well-paying job, but one has to sacrifice some artistic freedom to draw for a living (the boss likes things just so).
We've got Hallmark over here too, but they're pretty huge and work you pretty hard. My boss, on the other hand, handed me forty bucks the other day just because he was so happy with the anthropomorphic deer shirt I painted, saying he wanted to buy me dinner he was so pleased. It's been about a year and a half, but I think I'm finally figuring out a little better what kind of stuff he wants. And he's asking me if I know any more artists. Hence the post.
Oh yes, and we've got tornadoes sometimes. Whee! Exciting!
