<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2766/small/unigirl_icon.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">Hmmmm, unfortunately I cannot contribute! I used to enjoy The Wizard of Oz, until it was shown constantly for weeks on end..

Also, the story of the last time I saw this movie: I ended up on a really long bus ride, where the movie was being played VERY loudly. What was even worse, is that I had not gotten a single moment of sleep for a couple of days before the bus ride, and well... I was hoping to have gotten a bit of shut-eye while on the bus... Nope! Too loud. That's how I developed my greatest distaste for the movie. ^_^; Sorry!

im a bit dumb... - Celty

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2568/small/ArtSpots03.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">An art trade is simply an agreement between two artists to trade works of art. It applies to many formats, and the final pieces are often mailed out.

It's usual for each participant to have a say in the subject matter. For instance, if I traded with you, I could request you draw one of my characters, and you could request I draw one of yours. Some people get a little more specific with adding in a theme, such as Christmas time, rock music, video games, etc. It's also common for people to request you draw their character as anthro, feral, were, and so on.

Unlike with commissions, time restrictions for completion are fairly loose. There's no legal obligation for either party to complete the art, as no money changes hands. This makes some people wary of taking up trades, but the moral obligation is usually enough to push people into fulfilling their side of the trade.

That's all I can think of, hope it helped :]

She has reddish-brown fur and red hair, green eyes, and wears an elegant green cloak or warrior's garb.

Chrome requires everything have a z-index or it doesn't "layer" the way one wants it to. What a PITA!

*nods* I've been doing research and recently traded a Website design for the Graphic Artist's Guild's Guide to Ethical Pricing. If anything it gives me a professional, published source to review and show to potential clients.

I think what gets my billy goat, is that some people don't understand the work that goes into it. That and a "Designer", "Programmer", and a "Developer" are in fact three different jobs. So people who can do all of that plus are in fact worth more money, especially if they do it well! :) I've been to a number of job boards where the offers for redesigns are like... $250 or less.

......

I'm not talking Photoshop mock ups. I'm talking multipage full site redesigns. *shakes head*

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2984/small/samudramystical.gif" style="padding:5px;float:left;">code wise I agree it is not a sin to use other people's coding especially if they allow for it, encourage it, or wrap it up as a public file.

As for the logo design and artistic nature of it, that's where it gets sticky.

In terms of how much to charge, I've usually discovered that it gets way more than anthro art, but it's also more time consuming than art, especially when you have to code your photoshop based design for cross compatibility. That is always a bitch.

That said, CSS and html is a mixed blessing for me. I love it but it can become a monster if you don't plan for it.

Pac: Thank you as well.

Using a pre-conceived CMS or CMS-capable back end isn't a sin. In fact for just-Designers (User Interface designers) in general it's not so bad. One just needs to learn enough PHP, Javscript, and maybe a touch of Ajax in order to get a theme to work properly! (btw, LOVE your site) It's better then trying to reinvent the wheel! As it were.

I'm all about it myself, since WP 2.7 can be converted into a CMS rather then a blog platform. Very sweet. It's fully supported to make Comic sites (I suggested it to Meezer (redcoatcat) for her loyalty & liberty comic), and has gallery code plugins that just needs styling!

I've been doing a lot more SEO, Marketing, and passive income research and feel that it would be a benefit to any artist to have a CMS like WordPress since one can blog, post their tutorials, or other tidbits - as well as sell art straight from their site.

Joomla and Drupal are two other platforms I've been teaching myself to do the same thing. The only thing Id' charge of course would be the design fee for the work done, since the backend code is free, generally speaking.

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2096/small/grunge2_128.gif" style="padding:5px;float:left;">i don't think you should worry about stepping on toes. just like this gallery if filled with varied artists who offer their goods and services, so too are designers, with their own personal vision, creativity, price ranges, etc. "stepping on toes" is nothing more than a meek way to look at competition. in a way, all practicing artists are competing for customers, though not to make it sounds as tooth and nail as it might appear. what i'm saying is, don't be afraid to offer something you can provide, especially if few people are doing it. no one bats an eyelash when many artists offer cut out badges because each artist is unique. so should be true also of designers. one designer's vision may not be the same as another.

i'm not sure what you SHOULD charge, but essentially think about this: compared to how you work in art, how much is one hour of your design and coding worth to you? is it more or less than making one hour or art? would you charge more per hour of art because it is more time consuming and consumes more 'real' materials? or is design more because it requires ore critical thinking and revision? i usually don't charge by the hour, but it helps me estimate costs on projects.

(fyi, i design and code my own website [with a wordpress backend]. i don't officially offer it as a service, but am inquired once in a blue moon. a template for a website, designed and coded, tends to be a lot more than private anthro commissions because it tends to take a lot longer.)

good luck!

Artist and Their Websites? - Drakenhart

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/1044/small/p1157991428.gif" style="padding:5px;float:left;">I've been contemplating an idea and got to wondering....

What other artist on here, or that you may know, who writes their own websites?

I ask because I want to start offering sites for fellow artists on a commission basis.... But I'm unsure how successful this would be in general. There is at least two other folks I know of who do this sort of thing. I don't like stepping on toes, especially with other people that I respect and like! Add to that most artists don't have a lot going for them to be able to afford sites, and I don't want to offer cheaper. Reason being undercutting fellow designers = bad mojo. Under-selling myself = worse mojo only because I might be needing them to support me if this all goes fully professional!

I figure that since I'm an artist too, that crafting for a niche market that I understand better then others will go a long way in keeping me motivated :) But I need to be sure this is the direction for me, ya know?

And I don't want to make enemies for stepping on toes either. :?

*sighs*

My mom has an old family album of people in the 1800s/early 1900s, back when they didn't smile in pictures. They're all printed on these tin sheets (there's a name for them, but it escapes me). Anyway, very fun to look through.

There's probably over 40 pictures in it, I've looked at all of them, but I haven't counted yet. All of the pictures are from the early fifties or older. I even have one from 1908!! So, here are a few I have. I hope you enjoy them! And feel free to save them onto your computer! =D

Aww! Here's one of my favorites! They look so happy!

Favorite Dog breed? - Vizon

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/176/small/Avatar_Jasper.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">I love the look of black shepherds, slick sight hounds (and wolfhounds), bull terriers (which are tough-looking and cute imo), and dachshunds. But if I were to actually get a dog, I'd either have to get a corgi (as I don't have my own house and there are usually size restrictions at apartments), or if I have my own house I'd like a gentle big dog like a Great Pyrenees. I don't really like the yippers though. Corgis are cute and the ones I've met don't seem to have the sort of Napoleonic disorder that most toy-types do. I've also heard that you shouldn't get a dog that has more energy than you, so that nixes a lot of the more high-strung dog-types for me, ha ha.

One of the prettiest dogs I've ever had the pleasure of owning was a chow-chow/collie cross. She was black fluff with dainty feet and a long, beautiful face. Something about those long noses I really adore...

<p>Hi Kat. :) What kind of things do you make? Your art doesnt have to be anthro both here and FA as long as they abide by the AUP's. I know a lady on FA who makes jewelry, for example. </p>

<p>In any event, welcome to artspots! :)</p>

</blockquote>

Thanks so much. Most of the issues with using FA as a place was the lack of consistancy and the way that the rules were enforced. You kill more flies with honey...y'know?

Most of what I do are things like anime, manga, and anthro drawings, I make costume tails out of yarn (and take commissions on them). I paint the masks that my boyfriend molds (he does the main wor but I do the custom job on it). I also perform, cosplay, and I also model (some clothed and others not--thats where deviantArt comes in handy I guess).

So, Im going to do my best. I already created a folder just for WIPs and things that I encourage people to redline. Sometimes I draw things where I know my anatomy is off, especially male subjects.
