<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2135/small/animLiz.gif" style="padding:5px;float:left;">I've taken to rolling my own sushi lately, and stumbled across one that I absolutely LOVE. It's got tempura mini shrimp (each shrimp is maybe the size of a quarter), cream cheese, and scallions. Roll those up as if you were doing a California roll, and over the top drizzle a 50/50 spicy sauce mix of mayo and the Chinese hot sauce with a rooster on the bottle (I do NOT remember the name of it). Yum yum!

I'd love the recipe if you can get it :3 I actually oddly enough don't have any Asian friends anymore IRL as the small little mountain town I live in, the demographic is mostly white folks and don't have much ethnic cuisine aside from Mexican. We only just got a Thai food place up here in one of the resort towns (which is actually very good but they don't do the satay the way I like it). But I know where the Asian markets are so finding the ingredients shouldn't be a problem at all. I buy my spices there and at the Mexican carnecerias. Cheap, diverse, and in bulk :)

Mmm...Laksa... How to describe it. It's basically a mix of Malaysian coconut curry mix (if you think normal curry is hot... you might want to get some water for this) mixed with desired meats and tofu. It's topped over rice vermicelli and sometimes paired with Lime juice cordial.

What you might want to do before making it yourself is to get an asian friend to get the best laksa in cali (I have to ask my relatives when I go there again where) and try it. It's not going to be as amazing as singapore, but it should be pretty good given the diversity of asians there.

I'll have to ask my mom for the recipe :)

I'm not fond of hot foods but laksa I make an exception for.

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2060/small/072608-nikotexticon128.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">I have 2 tikka masala recipes I use and modify to taste.

The primary one most people seem to be familiar with is Gre7g's recipe, Kyoht's husband. Its really delicious! I change some of the spices (i notice he doesn't have curry listed in there at all, but I've been told by others that he does in fact put it in there, so I add some, I think a tablespoon worth? I love curry so I generally just add a lot) Just replace the water with heavy whipping cream.

That one's located here.
http://gre7g.livejournal.com/796.html

Then there's also Foodnetwork.com if you just do a search for chicken tikka masala I think only 2 really good results come up, its the one that uses the oil base although when I tried it I found it to be much too oily. I may use cream and tomato soup for the base instead to counter the oil. But people liked the spice of this one better.

And mmm satay! I make chicken satay as well. Take some yogurt, put in some curry, garlic, powdered ginger, dip your chicken in there, skewer, and grill. For the peanut sauce I use soysauce, peanutbutter, brown sugar, little bit of warm water for the brown sugar, lime juice and a bit of hot chili oil to give it a kick. Muy bueno!

By the way I'm gonna be a community pimp and say that if anyone wants to post their concoctions with pictures and see what other people are posting, check out http://showandtellfood.livejournal.com. Its an LJ community I run where foodies like me post step by step/results images of the little kitchen triumphs with recipes :)

And ooooh sushi. My favorite has always been the dragon roll. Tempura shrimp, avocado, eel soooometimes those little decorative fisheggs numnumnum

Recently I've been eating on such a small budget that I haven't been able to make too many food finds. Canned chicken isn't exactly gourmet eating! XD But, I suppose the last kick I was on had me craving and cooking marinated flank steak and potato salad.</blockquote>

Actually you can make some kick butt stuff with canned chicken broth, onions, virgin olive oil, chick peas, oregano, basil and some ditalini pasta! I used to room with an italian and he made the most awesome ethnic version of pasta fagiole without tomatoes. And it was very cheap to make.

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/567/small/avatar_whole.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">In the Comments section of someone's drawing, they asked me about a club I'm a member of, called Furrs Fur Christ.

The comment chain on this person's drawing was starting to get long with discussion, so I decided it would be better to talk about it here on the forum.

- - - -

http://www.furrsfurchrist.com

Furrs Fur Christ is an internet forum for Christians who like furry stuff.

What is it for?
It's supposed to be a safe haven for people who consider themselves Christians and furries.

Not a Christian?
Being a Christian (or even furry) isn't mandatory. We have had members from a variety of faiths (or non-faiths). Also, some of our members don't consider themselves to be furries.

What We Do
On this forum we chit-chat, share prayer requests, roleplay, write poems and stories, post links to artwork/videos, discuss various topics (sometimes controversial ones), offer advice and counseling, etc.

Safeguards
In the past, a couple of cynical humor websites posted some articles making fun of us (i.e. furries are sickos, etc). Since then, we've had to introduce safeguards to prevent flamers and trolls from becoming members.

Tolerance of Christian Views Recommended
Most F.F.C. members have relatively conservative Christian views about various issues, and sometimes this has made people feel unwelcome. Anybody can join and express differing opinions, but there are rules of etiquette and respect that everyone must follow. For example, saying "I disagree with that idea because..." is allowed and encouraged, but flaming the other person isn't.

Introductions - Spocha

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2226/small/spochasmug.gif" style="padding:5px;float:left;">I'm Spocha. I was the swedish girl who drew scawny characters with monstrous (nobody ever said it to my face D:) ears on Yerf. I have had galleries on many different sites, but tend to abandon them after awhile.

A decade ago I my parents got us internets at home and once online it didn't take many Yahoo searches before I realised that I wasn't alone about drawing cartoon animals. I found Yerf and holy crap! It amazed me how much all the different styles varied and how people were able to color like professional illustrators. Nuff said. I was determined of becoming just as good. So I started practising. Nearly all my free time the following three years went into drawing. The art classes in school where of great help to learn about different medias. The next time Yerf took in new applicants I asked dad to scan some of my pictures and sent them in.

And dood. I was accepted! By the same time I was accepted to the art programme at a well-respected highschool, hee!

Yerf led to bigass internet fame. Although I never knew. I never made much sound in the community. When I got my DeviantArt account people would frequently comment that they recognized me from Yerf, and I would think "Huh, what? Wow, cool!"

In recent years, as my muse is leading me to walk more experimental paths, and my professional career is expanded to a full time job, furry has been pushed quite aside. It's pretty much limited to random doodles in a pad on my desk at work. Just like it began, years ago. But I do owe it alot. I learned perspective and anathomy, composition, painting and storytelling through this form of art. And I seem hopelessly unable to leave this community behind, despite several tries. ;)

So, here I am. Again. I hope to have some fresh art to put in my gallery soon.

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/5/small/loran_head_trip.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">If this is the wrong place, please let me know.

FC2009 is proud to present a Con Book Art and Story contest. We will randomly select two art winners and one story winner from all of the entries, and each one of those winners will receive a Patron Level membership to FC2009. The Con Book editor will then decide who gets published in our Con Book form among all the entries, winners or not.

Patrons membership to FC2009 includes:
- A Free FC2009 t-shirt
- Admittance to our Catered Patron lunch with our Guests of Honor
- Cool Goodies such as our limited edition convention lapel pin and other gifts
- The ever so cool Patron badge.

The Rules
- Each artist and author is limited to one entry per person.
- Art , Stories and Poems have to be PG rated. No exceptions.
- Art should fit the theme of FC2009, which is "Surf Safari". Which our website states as "Catch a wave and hang-ten off the shores of a Polynesian isle, or hit the beach and grab a mojito under the palm trees, listening to the call of tropical birds." So think of surfing films, hanging out at the beach and having a cool drink.
- Poems, or Essays should also fit the theme as well.

A question of artists' permissions - Drakenhart

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/1044/small/p1157991428.gif" style="padding:5px;float:left;">First I want to say this. I LOVE YOU !!!! Only because what you posted says so much about your personal character as an individual. You actually CARE and have the conscious to feel scummy about this. That says a lot about you.

As for the artwork, I have to echo... Its not for personal gain. There -shouldn't- be any issues.

BUT do try to at least contact as many of the artists as possible. Put up a single webpage with the final result of placing them all together.., and list everyone who you can remember. Make you intent public so that if anyone DOES have an issue they can say so, and work something out with you. Place a link to the page in blogs and on artists boards asking others to spread it out so that the artists you can't get a hold of can find out about this.

If by the time MFF rolls around (even if you wait until next year just to be sure), they have had the time to respond.

The money goes to charity and as long as you list everyone who has continbuted, you are given them the credit most desire. :)

That's my two cents. ;)

A question of artists' permissions - Keovi

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/2240/small/kio-wiggle-icon-speak-as.png" style="padding:5px;float:left;"><blockquote><strong>Kensan Oni said:</strong> <blockquote><strong>Keovi said:</strong> I've never understood why people get up in arms when someone resells a commissioned or purchased image. Reselling the physical image in no way violates distribution rights, and the person DID buy the art.

Wouldn't saying you can't resell art you've bought be like saying it's unethical to sell a car you bought?

I can't think of any legal reason you can't resell those sketches. It's not like you're making prints. And although some may not agree, I can't think of any reason it would be unethical. </blockquote>

Well... There is a case of the Peni's.

Wendy Peni, the creator of Elfquest, had a problem at one point where she would be commissioned for an original Elf, which she did at a reasonable rate at one point... and then people would go and sell it on Ebay for 5 times what they paid for it the next day. Understandably, the Peni's were a bit miffed at this, and no longer do commission for nearly as little (actually, I'm not even sure they do them anymore at this point), and never for anything but their original characters anymore.

Now note, I think it was less about the reselling of art, and more of the fact that the person went and turned around THAT DAY, and exploited the artist. So, really, it's not completely applicable to this discussion, but I can see where some artist could have a serious issue.</blockquote>

It's kind of harsh, but perhaps the artist(s) were exploiting themselves by charging so little (based on what you say). If I found someone could sell one of my originals for five times what I charged to buy it, I'd raise my prices by at least that much :P

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/1416/small/kynlargeletterconjaxpad.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">I second what Keovi said. People in the "fine arts" world sell and resell art all the time, and they *do* profit from it. As long as you're not altering the image and claiming it as your own work, I don't see the problem at all. My only concern when I do a commission is that the buyer understands I retain the right to publish the work, in my gallery or portfolio or whatever. What they want to do with their commission after the fact is neither my business nor something I care about. At that point, they own the art, and if they want to sell it it's fine by me. Just don't say you drew it, that's all I ask.

A question of artists' permissions - Tracy Reynolds

<img src="http://www.artspots.com/files/user_pic/file/70/small/forest2.jpg" style="padding:5px;float:left;">When I draw in people's sketchbooks, I usually try to follow the theme of the book. If it's a raunchy book, then I will draw raunchy. I feel pretty safe in doing this because it's in someone's book; they might show it to some friends, but generally, people don't scan the drawings and post them around the internet.

I know it's a foolish gamble, but I relate this story to illustrate why some artists might make drama over reselling their art.

But then I have friends who did draw something raunchy that they thought was going to be private, and it ended up getting posted on FA.

I also purchased a raunchy print from someone, kept it for awhile, then sold it, and the artist got *really* upset because he didn't want anyone to know he drew that sort of thing...but neglected to tell me about it. Naturally I wanted to make sure my item for sale reached the broadest possible audience, so I advertised everywhere I could. Whooooo boy.
